October 3rd: Engaging Through Empathy: Substance Abuse

The purpose of this training is to develop skills in engaging challenging families due to substance abuse.  This training is completed in partnership with the Kersten Borer, a private practice substance abuse counselor.

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize how biases and assumptions around substance abuse can affect family engagement
  • Empathize with clients who abuse substances
  • Listen, tune-in, and engage clients
Scenarios are enacted in Project Harmony’s training apartment to facilitate experiential learning. 

This training meets the requirements for 3 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for social workers and Licensed Mental Health Professionals in Nebraska and Iowa.
