Physical Child Abuse

 

Target Audience

Medical professionals, law enforcement, attorneys, child protective services, school employees, community providers and all others who work with children.

Description

The purpose of this course is to increase participants’ knowledge and skill in recognizing the medical aspects of physical child abuse.  Participants will learn to:

  • Identify indicators of physical abuse

    - Burns

    - Bruises

    - Pattern injuries

    - Broken bones

  • Diagnose physical abuse (medical professionals only)
  • Treat physical abuse (medical professionals only)
  • Investigation considerations related to physical abuse (law enforcement /CPS/legal only)

This course can be tailored to fit one- to three-hour time frames.  Using case examples, photographs, radiographs and other digital images, participants will distinguish between physical abuse and mimics.
