Developing the Helping Relationship: Working with Families Affected by Child Abuse

 

Target Audience

Child and family advocates, case managers, youth workers and others who work with families affected by child maltreatment.

Description

The purpose of this three-hour course is to enhance workers’ awareness and appropriate use of interpersonal skills when working with non-offending caregivers and their children.  Participants will:

  • Increase self awareness related to professional practice
  • Identify characteristics of effective helping relationships
  • Practice tuning into and engaging families

Participants will have an opportunity to assess their helping qualities, identify ways they engage clients and apply selected helping skills to child abuse scenarios.
