Medical professionals, law enforcement, attorneys, child protective services, school employees, community providers and all others who work with children

Description

This one-hour course is designed for participants seeking to increase their awareness of the medical aspects of child sexual abuse.  Participants will learn:

  • Definition of child sexual abuse
  • Disclosure and/or presentation of sexual abuse
  • Conditions commonly confused with sexual abuse
  • Medical examination of sexual abuse

    - Use of colposcope

    - Importance of staff expertise

    - Techniques for examination (for medical professionals only)

  • Myths about the sexual abuse exams

Using case examples and images, participants will have an opportunity to compare normal anatomy with sexual abuse.
